A variety of accommodations are available in the community and can be arranged through Bienestar, prices range from $350. a month upward. Food plans for general or specific diets can also be arranged for the duration of the program, each plan is unique therefore pricing must be customized.
There are two hotels and a hostel within walking distance of Bienestar.
Each one has a different flavor, style and they all give me a special price by the month, plus that program is in low season. Currently they all range from $340 -360. per month and I doubt there will be any change.
Flutterby Hostel – a hostel but one of the most loved in Central America, busy, fun, close to the sea, community kitchen, dorm style sleeping and shared baths.
www.flutterbyhouse.com/
La Flori de Bahia – no cooking, but air conditioning and a small pool American style rooms.
www.lafioridebahia.com
Casa Bahia – separate kitchen available to guests, a bit further to walk but on a breezy hilltop, very quiet – private, nice rooms. I use the space for small retreats because it is so quiet and private.
I provide fruits and juices in the a.m. and I am trying to offer a low cost optional large organic fresh salad lunch, Gluten free with or with out protein in my next program. So I hope to be offering that again… and then dinner is on your own. If you chose a place with a kitchen it will be the least expensive option, otherwise meals out here are 3000 – 7000 colones. That is $6. to $14 dollars.
…Imagine balancing effortlessly in Tree position, feeling the quiet strength of your roots burying deep into the earth, as you gaze upon the ancient, mossy trunks of jungle giants standing silently all around…
…Imagine burying your feet in soft coral sand, warm waves cleansing your skin, feeling the caresses of a healing breeze on a body that is full of vitality…
…Imagine closing your eyes and drinking in the smell of the ginger flower mixed with the ylangylang tree, while your ears take in the symphony of parrots, howler monkeys and the slow rush of a sleepy sea…
At Punta Mona Center, Costa Rica, every moment is breathtaking.
We start our day with what is real, filled with the power of nature: we wake with the sun, we breathe with the sounds, we meditate in this flourishing space and we move with these natural flows… and bit by bit, we re-synchronize ourselves to the rhythms of this wild earth.

Teacher Bios: Julia Jiya Randall: Jiya is a deeply spiritual leader who roots her teaching in the healing energy of nature. She has worked with SchoolYoga Institute for several years, sharing yoga across the continents, and is a source of dedicated guidance and inspiration. Jiya specializes in alternative health, bringing in a range of practices including energy healing, herbology, personal therapy, massage and nutrition. Her teaching invites students to explore their own, unique unfolding, through profound awareness of and trust in the wisdom of the Self. Jessi Long: Since a young age, Jessi has studied dance and creative movement. Yoga found Jessi seven years ago, and since her first RYT200 teacher training in 2008, Jessi has led retreats and workshops throughout the States, Guatemala, Mexico, and Costa Rica. She completed her RYT500 hour certification in 2012 and is now an RYT facilitator in several countries for School Yoga Institute. Jessi teaches a Vinyasa based practice to combine elements of dance and natural movement with traditional yogic sequencing. She is grateful for the journey and to share movement of bliss with others along the way. Jessi lives and teaches in Guatemala, where she also founded JUSTA, a holistic network that connects indigenous artisans, global designers, and projects that promote self-sustaining development, creative expression, and holistic empowerment within family and community Jed Pennell: Born to a hippie woodsman and an indigenous seer, Jed’s roots run deep in the streams of earth knowledge. A middle child of four brothers, he spent his childhood playing in the clean cold streams of southern Oregon, building forts among the sacred cedars. His character serene like the old-growth firs he in the Kalamiopsis wilderness behind his house: charred by fire, growing sweeter and stronger through tragedy yet inclined toward victory. Upon graduating from Illinois Valley High School as valedictorian, ASB president, and a 3x state wrestling champion he went to Oregon State University where he continued his search. As a NCAA Division I wrestler he flourished through a relentless work ethic and driving longing for realization, becoming the Pac-10 newcomer of the year and a perennial national competitor. Earning a minor in Philosophy and a Masters Degree in Exercise and Sport Science, he was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. En route to his teaching degree the universe orchestrated one of the most magical, synchronistic meetings of his lifetime: his soulmate Keri! It was also in college that he began practicing yoga. Here he found a crystallization of his spiritual values and his life purpose. Studying under Sujita Sklenar, after a few years he began subbing for her classes. Moving to the southern Mendocino coast, with his soon to be wife, Jed spent the next six years teaching Physical Education, Health, and other subjects at Point Arena High School. There he also led spiritual flow yoga classes twice a week, became an avid surfer and was blessed with the birth of his two sons. In the summer of 2009 he took a pilgrimage to rediscover the ancient knowledge of his ancestors in Peru, while transforming his practice through studying with Vedantin in his 200 and 500-hour School Yoga Institute teacher training courses. Delving into the shamanic realms, in 2011 he finished his 1000-Hr and facilitator SYI trainings. His mystical epic soul journey continues today as he spends time back at home in southern Oregon working on various organic permaculture gardening projects, when not travelling the world facilitating Teacher Training Courses with the SYI. As a follower of the Mayan Tzolkin and 13 moon calendars, Jed embodies Cib/Ajmac (vulture/condor/owl) and the Blue Resonant Monkey, respectively. A peaceful warrior letting his life emerge through humor, paradox and change, his motto has become: ‘shine love n’ light’. Emanating out from the moment of formlessness the flower of life is the pattern of creation he follows. Passionate about embodying the shift back toward the galactic center—the Divine feminine—Jed practices holding space, seeing through illusion, and recognizing the one in all, whether studying crop circles, drawing sacred geometry, practicing yoga, playing devotional music, raising his precious family or surfing voluptuous waves.

• Teacher Bios:
Scott Gallant
Scott Gallant is an agroforester and food system designer from small town Ohio. He graduated from Wabash College in 2008 with a degree in Economics. As the farm manager at Rancho Mastatal he works with an amazing team to cultivate 15 acres of a emerging tropical agroforest. He is the lead permaculture design instructor on site and one of the principle founders of the Rancho Mastatal Design/Build Collective. Passionate about regenerative agriculture, holistic thinking, ethnobotany, community development, and re-skilling, he still makes time to hike and bike, read exhaustively, and work on his basketball jump shot and frisbee throw. He and his partner Laura have traveled and volunteered extensively in Latin America, leading to a love of the culture, food, and language, which they speak. Scott is a certified Wilderness First Responder, writes for the Permaculture Research Institute and has been featured on the Permaculture Voices podcast.
Chirstopher Shanks
A multi-talented teacher, organizer, permaculture enthusiast, and design visionary, Chris has worked with some of the finest Permaculture and ecological designers in the Western hemisphere. Fascinated with living systems, Chris has invested himself heavily into the study of whole systems design, ethno-botany, horticulture, mycology, and ecology. His interests have led him to study agro-ecosystems and cultural anthropology in Spain, the Bahamas, Costa Rica, the USVI, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Hawai’i, as well as the temperate and sub-tropical regions of both coasts of the United States. Chris combines leading the ground team at Project Bona Fide, a non-profit research and demonstration farm in Nicaragua, with his own work in the professional design world. He works in master planning and site design with Whole Systems Design LLC and serves as their chief horticulturalist and Project Manager. Chris also founded and runs his own company, Living Systems Solutions, based in Nicaragua. When not working in the non-profit or design world he can be found masquerading as a builder, a mason, a decent plumber, a poor electrician, a sailor, a fanatic for bamboo, a lover of palms, a permaculturalist with a rock/tree climbing habit, and as an avid motorcyclist.
Rachel Jackson
Rachel holds a Masters Degree in Sustainable Landscape Planning and Design from the Conway School in Conway, Massachusetts. She has been practicing permaculture in the tropics since 2009, working in both the rainforests of Costa Rica and the dry forests of Nicaragua. She is passionate about creating harmonious, healthy relationships between humans and the landscape. From urban renewal projects in New England to food forests in Latin America, Rachel has used her skills to create integrated, whole-system designs in difficult locations. She has also worked as a garden-based youth educator, art handler, photographer and carpenter and harbors a life-goal of trying as many varieties of tropical fruits as possible.
Mitch Haddad
A dedicated community organizer and permaculture aficionado-in-training. He holds joint degrees in Latin American Studies, International Studies and Spanish from Providence College. Since joining the Project Bona Fide team in 2010, Mitch has grown into a key player within the organization. He emphasizes a community-based approach to project management and is a wealth of knowledge about the ins and outs of daily life at the farm. In addition to being an amateur builder and carpenter, he is passionate about natural building, food security and appropriate technology. When he’s not running around the farm and interacting with the local community, he gorges himself on guavas and continues to refine his jamming, fermentation, and chocolate-making skills.
Laura Killingbeck
Laura is wildly passionate about food, nutrition, and whole systems health. She has a BA in Sociology and Philosophy from the University of Rhode Island and is a current Wilderness First Responder. She worked previously as a superhero mascot, a sawyer, and a sustainability consultant. Laura spent several years traveling through Latin America by thumb, boat, bike, and bus before landing at the Ranch with her partner Scott in 2009. She spends her days concocting live culture ferments, curing vanilla, planting rhizome guilds, and living in community.

Free Spirit Retreats
Free Spirit
Free Spirit Retreats was born from a belief – that it only takes one spark to start a blaze. When positive change seems far from real and we get caught up in day-to-day life, we need space and time in an effortless environment to surrender to what is. The magic will then always unfold.

Costa Rica
All trails seem to lead to waterfalls, misty crater lakes or jungle-fringed, deserted beaches. Explored by horseback, foot or kayak, Costa Rica is a tropical choose-your-own-adventure land.

My Yoga journey started the first day I practiced. I walked off my mat and took note of the effects that it had on me. How it made my body sweaty and hot, but more than that was the sense of peace and contentment that I felt with the present moment. I rolled up my mat and realized that I could do anything, be anybody, and could share the peace and love with everyone. As my practice progressed, my body began to change for the better. I was more aware of my body. I was more awake. When I was more awake I could see the role I was playing in my relationships. I started to build better relationships. I wasn’t so reactive throughout my days and in times of stress. I have learned so much from yoga. It has taught me how to accept where you are in life. I completed a 200 hour hot yoga teacher training to start and then followed it with a 100 hour teacher training at Shanti School of Power Yoga. My skills were progressing. I started to really resonate with feeling empowered. I started to feel like I was shining. Just like Nelson Mandela said: “Who are we, not to shine?”. I started to understand and see even more. To this day my intention for my students is to have them leave feeling empowered by their own strength and power so they can shine their light on the world. I met Sid McNairy along my journey and I was immediately inspired by him. I attended one of his classes and left feeling a fire lit within me. He became a real mentor to me. I was drawn to his way of teaching. Reminding us to trust the process, be present, and hold ourselves accountable. Accountable for our dreams, our desires, and our goals. I continue to train with Sid and travel to attend his workshops. I attended his Empowerment and Beyond program in Nicaragua in 2011 and since then have completed two more of his Empowerment and Beyond programs. Over the last year my sister and I have opened our own yoga studio- Shakti. Our community of people have been inspiring and supportive. I have continued my training to grow as a yoga instructor and a person. I have taken level 1 with Baron Baptiste and am a level 2 candidate for next spring. Through my journey I continue to work hard to find more self- acceptance and power. I find the layers fall off and I can give myself a lovingness and more significantly give others this same love. I have found that the more I continue to empower myself, I can empower those around me. I know I will continue this work and other than that, that is all I know. I’m ready to take the next steps and although I’m not really sure what will come next, I am looking forward to the possibilities of the unknown. I’m ready for anything and I will carry a way of being that is based on love and connection. Namaste.

I began practicing yoga in 2006. It didn’t take long till I started to see the effects of how the practice impacted my life. I am passionate about my practice, and have the desire to share this passion with the world. I have completed teacher trainings with Baron Baptiste, Johnna Smith, and Sumit Banerjee. I teach mostly power yoga vinyasa because it changed my life. Building the Shakti community with my sister Lauren has been one of my greatest adventures. This community has come together through a shared love of yoga, and continues to grow and expand outside the studio walls. I am inspired by the leaders and teachers at Shakti Power Yoga and leaders from the Baptiste community who motivate me to continue to move forward, and expand my boundaries . My husband has been my biggest support and the way his business impacts Nashville continues to inspire me. Workshops, teacher trainings, and destination retreats have brought me so much joy, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to co lead retreats with the women I love and admire Lauren and Jennifer. We offer a retreat that will give you the opportunity to rejuvenate, reconnect with yourself and others, practice, practice, practice, and immerse yourself in the experience in the beauty of Costa Rica.
